Since 1993, the Centennial Foundation has initiated, executed, and supported projects that improve our community. And we’ll keep doing so.

About the Swarthmore Centennial Foundation

Our History

The Swarthmore Centennial Foundation was founded in 1993 in celebration of Swarthmore’s first 100 years. Edmund Jones, after whom our annual scholarship is dedicated, was a founding member of the Foundation, and served as its chairman from our inception in 1993 until 2012. We have been funding projects, scholarships, awards, and special projects in the borough ever since.

Our Mission

The Foundation’s mission is “to provide for the betterment of Swarthmore, the improvement of the community, its children, and its citizens now and in the future.” We keep this mission in mind in everything we do, ensuring our projects and initiatives are in full alignment with it.

Our Trustees

Our trustees are often longtime Swarthmore residents, and have a demonstrated history of positive contributions to our community. We strive to ensure the makeup of our board represents the diversity of our community in order to provide a wide variety of perspectives to inform our endeavors.

Our Funding

We are funded through contributions from the Swarthmore community at large and careful stewardship of our investment portfolio. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are able to receive tax deductible donations and bequests to fund our projects and initiatves.

Our Initiatives

We fund beautification and revitalization projects in Swarthmore, social programming and events, and a scholarship for high school students. We also celebrate those who make our town a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable place to work, learn, do business, and live.
